Ludwig August Baron Dieskau

Dieskau, Ludwig August, Baron (1701-1767), soldier, was born in Saxony in 1701. He entered the French army, became aide-de-camp of Marshal Saxe, and in 1748 attained the rank of major-general of infantry. In 1755 he was sent to Canada as commander-in-chief of the French troops in the colony; and in September, 1755, he was defeated at lake George, and taken prisoner by the English. He remained a prisoner until 1763, when he was exchanged and returned to France ; and he died at Suresnes, near Paris, on September 8, 1767.
