Anne Joseph Hippolyte de Maurès

Comte de Malartic

 

Malartic, Anne Joseph Hippolyte de Maurès, Comte de (1730-1800), soldier, was born at Montauban, France, in 1730. He entered the army, and saw service in Flanders and Italy. In 1755 he was sent to Canada, and he served under Dieskau and Montcalm throughout the Seven Years' War. He was one of Montcalm's aides-de-camp at the battle of the Plains of Abraham. After the conquest of Canada he returned to France, and he rose to the rank of lieutenant-general in the French army. He died in France on July 28, 1800. His Journal des campagnes au Canada was published by the Comte Gabriel de Maurès de Malartic and P. Gaffarel (Dijon, 1890).
