Hugh Andrew Allan

 

Late Chairman, Allan Line Steamship Co. Born Montreal, Sept. 22, 1857, son of Andrew Allan, one of the founders of the Montreal Steamship Co., and Isabella Ann (Smith) Allan. Educated: Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh, Scotland; Rugby, England. Entered office of H. & A. Allan, and received business training under the late Sir Hugh Allan, and his brother Andrew Allan; admitted to partnership, 1881; in charge of Boston branch 1887-1892; Chairman, Allan Line Steamship Co., 1909-1917, in London, Eng. Delegate, 5th Congress, Chambers of Commerce of Empire. Married Margaret Rae, daughter of late William Rae, Quebec, 1884; has one daughter. Clubs: Mount Royal; Montreal Hunt; Forest and Stream; Royal Montreal Golf; Canadian Auto; Montreal Jockey; Mount Bruno Country; Royal Automobile Club, London , Eng. Imperialist. Presbyterian. Residence: 682 Mountain Street, Montreal.
