Rodolphe Toussaint Antoine Laflamme

 

Laflamme, Toussaint Antoine Rodolphe (1827-1893), lawyer and politician, was born at Montreal on May 15, 1827, the son of Toussaint Laflamme, a merchant, and Marguerite Suzanne Thibaudeau. He was educated at the college of St. Sulpice and at McGill University (B.C.L., 1856; D.C.L., 1873) ; and he was called to the bar of Lower Canada in 1849 (Q.C., 1863). In 1844 he was one of the founders of the Institut Canadien of Montreal ; in 1847 he was its president; and in 1852, one of its incorporators. From 1872 to 1878 he represented Jacques Cartier in the Canadian House of Commons; and from 1876 to 1878 he was a member of the Mackenzie administration, first as minister of inland revenue (1876-7), and then as minister of justice (1877-8). In 1878 he retired from active politics; and he died on December 7, 1893. He was not married.
