Joseph Papin

 

Papin, Joseph (1825-1862), lawyer and politician, was born at L'Assomption, Lower Canada, on December 14, 1825, was educated at L'Assomption College, and studied law in Montreal. He was one of the early members of the Institut Canadien of Montreal , of which he was president in 1847, and he was described as the "Danton" of the Parti rouge. Prom 1854 to 1857 he represented L'Assomption in the Legislative Assembly of Canada. He was then appointed counsel to the corporation of Montreal ; and he died at L'Assomption on February 23, 1862.
