Fort Carlton, a Hudson's Bay Company post built in 1787 on the south side of the North Saskatchewan river, in lat. 106° 35'. It was later considered a sort of half-way house to Edmonton, and was an important transportation centre in the days of the Red River cart. It was raided by the Indians during the rebellion of 1885, and shortly afterwards was abandoned.
