Charles Ramsay Devlin

 

Devlin, Charles Ramsay (1858-1914), politician, was born at Aylmer, Lower Canada, on October 29, 185'8, the son of Charles Devlin. He was educated at Montreal College and Laval University (LL.D., 1908). From 1891 to 1896 he sat in the Canadian House of Commons for Ottawa county, and from 1896 to 1897 for Wright. From 1897 to 1903 he was Canadian trade commissioner in Ireland; and from 1903 to 1906 he sat for Galway city in the British House of Commons. In 1907 he, became minister of colonization, mines, and fisheries in the Gouin administration in the province of Quebec, being elected to the Quebec Assembly for Nicolet, and this portfolio he held until his death at Aylmer, Quebec, on March 1., 1914. In 1893 he married Blanche, daughter of Testard de Montigny, Ste. Scholastique, Quebec. In 1910 he was made an LL.D. of Ottawa University.
