Charles Honoré Laverdière

 

Laverdière, Charles Honoré (1826-1873), priest and historian, was born at Château-Richer, Lower Canada, on October 23, 1826. He was educated at the Quebec Seminary, and in 1851 was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic church. He became a professor in the Quebec Seminary in 1851; and he was appointed later librarian of Laval University. He died at Quebec on March 27, 1873. He was the author of an His toire du Canada (Quebec , 1873), and he edited Les relations des Jésuites (3 vols., Quebec, 1858), Les oeuvres de Champlain (6 vols., Quebec, 1870), and Le journal des Jésuites (Quebec, 1871).
