Cap D'Espoir

D'Espoir, cap, a promontory at the north-east entrance to Chaleur bay, in Gaspé county, Quebec. An important lighthouse has been built on this cape. Here it was that in 1711 part of the fleet of Admiral Sir Hovenden Walker was wrecked, with the loss of all on board. The name cape Despair, sometimes found, is incorrect.
