Bernard Claude Panet

 

Panet, Bernard Claude (1753-1833), Roman Catholic bishop of Quebec (1825-33), was born in Quebec on January 9, 1753, the second son of Jean Claude Panet. He was educated at the Quebec Seminary, and in 1778 was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Church. In 1781 he became curé of the parish of Rivière-Ouelle; and served in this parish for nearly forty-five years. In 1806 he was appointed coadjutor to Bishop Plessis with the title of bishop of Saldes in partibus; and in 1825 he became bishop of Quebec. He died at Quebec on February 14, 1833 . See P. G.
