Voyageur

 

Voyageur , the name applied to the French-Canadian canoemen or boatmen who manned the canoes or boats which carried the fur-traders of New France, and later of British Canada, across the length and breadth of the North American continent. See Grace Nute, The voyageur (New York, 1931).
