Thomas Dalton

Dalton , Thomas (1792-1840), journalist, was born in Birmingham, England ; on April 29, 1792 . He emigrated to Canada about 1812, and settled in Kingston. There he began in 1828 the publication of a weekly newspaper, the Patriot. In 1832 he transferred the Patriot to York (Toronto); and became one of the apologists for the "Family Compact". He died in Toronto on October 26, 1840. He was the author of a pamphlet on banking, Money is power (Toronto, 1835). See R. Card, The Daltons and the Patriot (Can. hist. rev., 1935).
