Robert Anne d'Estimauville

Chevalier de Beaumouchel

 

Estimauville, Robert Anne d', Chevalier de Beaumouchel (1754-1831), author, was born at Louisbourg, Cape Breton, on December 3, 1754. He entered the French army, and served in the Napoleonic wars; but he returned to Canada after the Peace of Amiens in 1802, and he held various posts under the government of Lower Canada. In 1823 he was appointed gentleman usher of the black rod. He died on on July 31, 1831. In 1821 he published at Quebec a short-lived monthly periodical, the Inquirer; and he was the author of A cursory view of the local, social, moral, and political state of the colony of Lower Canada (Quebec, 1829).
