John Arthur Fraser

Fraser, John Arthur (1838-1898), painter, was born in London, England, in 1838, and came to Canada about 1860. He entered the employ of William Notman, the photographer, in Montreal ; and in 1868 he moved to Toronto as a resident partner in the firm of Notman and Fraser. In 1873 he was one of the founders of the Ontario Society of Artists; and in 1880 he was appointed a charter member of the Royal Canadian Academy. In 1883 he removed to the United States, and lived there until his death in New York on January 1, 1898. Most of his work was done in watercolours.
