Chibougamau lake

Chibougamau lake is in northern Quebec , 200 miles to the north-west of lake St. John. It is 20 miles long, with a maximum width of 10 miles, is full of deep bays, and is dotted with islands. It is 1,150 feet above sea level. It discharges into the Chibougamau river, which, after a course of 130 miles, empties into the Waswanipi river. The country about the lake is rich in timber and minerals, but is as yet undeveloped. The name comes from an Indian word meaning "The water is stopped", from the narrowness of the lake's discharge.
