André Napoléon Montpetit

 

Montpetit, André Napoléon (1840-1898), author, was born at Beauharnois, Lower Canada, on July 4, 1840. He was educated at the College of St. Hyacinthe, and was called to the bar in 1862. He became a journalist, and in 1870 he was appointed editor of L' Opinion Publique. In this journal he published his Histoire des Hurons de Lorette. He died at Montreal on May 26, 1898. In 1866 he married Adèle, daughter of Professor J. B. Labelle; and by her he had four sons and three daughters. He was the author of Abrégé de. géographie moderne à I'usage de la jeunesse (Quebec, 1870), Colonie française de Metgermette (Quebec, 1874), Major L. N. Voyer (Montreal, 1876), L'amiante, c'est le million (Quebec, 1884), Nos hommes forts (Quebec, 1884), Louis Riel à la Rivière du Loup (Lévis, 1885), and Les poissons de l'eau douce du Canada (Montreal, 1897).
