Georges-Édouard Desbarats

 

Desbarats, Georges Edouard (1838­1893), printer and publisher, was born  at Quebec, Lower Canada, on April 5, 1838, the son of Georges Paschal Desbarats and Henriette Dionne. He succeeded his father as Queen's printer in 1865; but resigned soon afterwards. In 1869 he began the publication of the Canadian Illustrated News, and in 1870 that of L'Opinion Publique. In 1888 he founded the Dominion Illustrated. He died on February 18, 1893. He was the author of a pamphlet entitled L'esclavage dans l'antiquité (Montreal, 1858).
