He became a contractor, and was president of the Richelieu and Ontario Navigation Company. From 1858 to 1864 he was a member of the city council of Quebec ; and in 1867 he was appointed a member of the Legislative Council of Quebec, and was elected a member of the Canadian House of Commons for Quebec West. He resigned from the Legislative Council of Quebec in 1874, as a result of the abolition of dual representation; but he represented Quebec West in the Commons until 1892. In 1892 he was implicated in some serious charges of political corruption, and was expelled from the House. He died at Quebec, on January 2, 189.
