Samuel Gale

Gale, Samuel (1783-1865), judge and author, was born at St. Augustine, Florida, in 1783, the son of Samuel Gale, assistant paymaster of the British forces in America. He was admitted to the bar of Lower Canada in 1808; and in 1817 he was retained as counsel by Lord Selkirk in his contest with the North West Company. In 1834 he was appointed a judge of the court of King's Bench in Montreal ; he retired from the bench in 1848, and he died in June, 1865. He was the author of Nerva, or a collection of papers published in the Montreal Herald (Montreal, 1814), in which he made an attack on the administration of Sir George Prevost during the War of 1812.
