René Pothier Doucet

 

General Manager, Asbestos Corporation of Canada Ltd., Canada Cement Building , Phillips Square, Montreal. Born Montreal, July 7, 1873, son of late Théodore Doucet and Jessie Desbarats. Educated: Collège Ste. Marie, Montreal ; McGill University (B.C.L., 1896). Started in Notarial practice with father. Went to South Africa as member of the 1st Contingent (R.C.R.) as Private, 1900; after the termination of the war remained in South Africa until 1907, when he returned to Canada. Went into Asbestos business as Secretary, British Canadian Asbestos Co., Ltd., subsequently Secretary-Treasurer, Amalgamated Asbestos Corporation, Ltd., predecessors of present Company; Secretary-Treasurer, Asbestos Corporation of Canada, Ltd., to March 15, 1913, when appointed to the position of European Sales Manager, with headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, which position he held until 1916, when appointed General Sales Manager; named General Manager of the Company in September, 1922. Married Elizabeta Marhgerita Mazzucchi, daughter of Carlo B. Mazzucchi, March 25, 1904, in Natal, South Africa ; has two sons and one daughter. Clubs: Mount Royal; St. James's; University (Montreal); Royal Montreal Golf; Hunt; Racquet; Garrison (Quebec); Sports (London, Eng.) ; Canadian (New York); Chapleau Fishing. Recreations: Golf, swimming, yachting, fishing. Conservative. Roman Catholic. Residence: Thetford Mines, P.Q.
