Natural History Society of Montreal

Natural History Society of Montreal, a society founded in 1827 with a view to fostering a general spirit of scientific and literary research. From 1856 to 1883 the society published the Canadian naturalist and quarterly journal of science, with the proceedings of the society, which later became the Canadian naturalist and geologist (vols. i-viii; n.s., vols i-x). This was continued in 1884 as the Canadian record of science (the first number being entitled the Canadian record of natural history and geology), and the last number appeared in 1916. Publication was suspended in 1898 and from 1905 to 1913.
