Louis Dulongpré

 

Dulongpré, Louis (1759?-1843), painter, was born in Paris, France, about 1759, the son of Louis Dulongpré and Marie-Jeanne Duguay. He fought under Rochambeau in the War of American Independence; but after the war he came to Canada, and settled in Montreal. He achieved success as a painter of portraits and religious pictures; and he died at St. Hyacinthe, Lower Canada, on April 26, 1843. In 1787 he married in Montreal Marguerite Campeau.
