Charles Johnson Watts Dease (Dace)

Dease (Dace), Charles Johnson Watts (fl. 1797-1826), fur-trader, was the youngest son of Dr. John Dease, of the Indian department, a nephew of Sir William Johnson, Bart., and was born at Côte des Neiges, near Montreal, on December 3, 1797. He entered the service of the North West Company as a clerk in 1814, and was, after 1821, for several years a clerk in the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1822-3 he was stationed in the Athabaska district; and from 1824 to 1826 he was in the Mackenzie River district. In 1826 he retired from the fur-trade, and returned to Canada.
