Cowansville

Cowansville, a village in Missisquoi county, Quebec, on the Canadian Pacific Railway, 24 miles south-west of Waterloo, and on the southern branch of the Yamaska river. It was originally known as Nelsonville, in memory of Lord Nelson; but the present name was substituted, in honour of Peter Cowan, the first postmaster in the locality. It has a cotton mill, an agricultural machinery factory and a signboard plant, besides factories for carriages, silks, oil-burning machinery, and furnaces.
