Amand Parent

Parent, Amand (1818-1907), clergyman, was born at Quebec, Lower Canada, in 1818, the son of French-Canadian Roman Catholic parents. In 1840 he was converted to Protestantism, and in 1856 he became a missionary of the Methodist Church, the first FrenchCanadian to be ordained in this denomination. He died at Waterloo, Quebec, on February 18, 1907. He wrote an autobiography, entitled The life of the Rev. Amend Parent (Toronto, 1887), describing "fifty-seven years' experience in the evangelical work in Canada, thirty-one years in connection with the [Methodist] Conference, and eight years among the Oka Indians."
