Alexander Walker

 

Walker, Alexander (fl. 1848-1867), poet, was a non-commissioned officer in the British army who came to Canada prior to 1848, when he contributed verse to the Literary Garland (Montreal). From 1857 to 1861 he was assistant editor of the Quebec Gazette; and later he was employed in the military stores department at Quebec. But after 1867 he passes from view. He was the author of The knapsack: A collection of fugitive poems (Kingston, 1853) and Hours off and on sentry; or, Personal recollections of military adventure in Great Britain, Portugal, and Canada (Montreal, 1859).
