Adam Brown

 

 

Brown, Adam (1826-1926), merchant and politician, was born at Edinburgh, Scotland, on April 3, 1826 , and came to Canada in 1833. He entered mercantile life, first in Montreal, then in Hamilton ; and he became in Hamilton the head of one of the largest wholesale grocery houses in Canada. He was one of the "fathers" of the National Policy of protection; and he represented Hamilton in the Canadian House of Commons from 1887 to 1891. In 1891 he was appointed postmaster of Hamilton ; and he died at Hamilton on January 16, 1926.
