Newfoundland Since the Moratorium
The photographer has captured with sensitivity the drama of the Cod Moratorium in Newfoundland. In the foreground, the decaying small fishing boats that have been rendered useless. Their sad state tells of the length of time that people have waited for cod to return and the Moratorium to be lifted. In the background we see the houses of the fishermen. These do not look abandoned and appear indeed well kept. They exemplify the desire of a people to cling to a way of life; they express the hope that cod will return again.
