Newfoundland Before the Cod Moratorium

Before the imposition of the cod moratorium, each fisherman was the proud owner of a small boat and, in season, set cod traps or went "jigging" for cod. It rarely made the outport fisherman rich, far from that. However, it provided employment, a way of life and a strong sense of community.
