The inscription on the plaque affixed to the house by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador states: "Possibly one of the oldest surviving houses in this important Bonavista Bay community, Monk's House has an unusual Common Purlin roof. The clock on the façade was made by Kenneth Monk who was well known as a watch and furniture maker".
