William Wainwright

Wainwright, William (1840-1914), railway executive, was born in Manchester, England, on April 30, 1840. He entered the service of the Manchester, Sheffield , and Lincolnshire Railway as a clerk in the accountant's office; and in 1862 he came to Canada, at the invitation of Sir E. W. Watkin, as chief clerk in the accountant's office of the Grand Trunk Railway. In the service of the Grand Trunk he rose until he became in 1911 senior vice-president of this railway, and second vice-president of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. He died, after 52 years' service with the Grand Trunk Railway, at Atlantic City, U.S.A., on May 14, 1914.
