Robert Warden

 

Warden, Robert H. (1841-1905), clergyman and financier, was born in Dundee, Scotland, on January 4, 1841, the son of Alexander J. Warden, F.S.A. He was educated at Madras College, St. Andrew's, Scotland ; and in 1866 he was ordained a minister of the Presbyterian Church. The same year he came to Canada ; and from 1866 to 1874 he was minister at Bothwell, Ontario. In 1875 he became agent at Montreal of the Presbyterian Church in Canada ; and in 1895 he became general agent of the church, a position he occupied until his death. In 1902 he was elected moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Canada ; and in 1903 he became president of the Metropolitan Bank. He died at Toronto on November 26, 1905. He married Jemima, daughter of William McCaskill, of the island of Skye, Scotland ; and by her he had several children. In 1888 he was made a D.D. of the Montreal Presbyterian College.
