Honoré Julien Jean-Baptiste Chouinard

 

Chouinard, Honoré Julien Jean Baptiste (1850-1928), historian, was born at Quebec on June 18, 1850 , the son of Honoré Julien Chouinard and Marie Pelletier. He was educated at Laval University, Quebec (LL.B., 1873), and was called to the bar of Quebec in 1873. He represented Dorchester in the Canadian House of Commons from 1888 to 1890; and in 1908 he was largely responsible for organizing the celebration of the tercentenary of the founding of Quebec. He was appointed the secretary of the Quebec Battlefields Commission; and for his work in this connection he received, in 1908, the C.M.G. He died at Quebec on November 27, 1928. In 1884 he married Marie Louise Isabelle, the youngest daughter of the Hon. Juchereau Duchesnay and niece of Cardinal Taschereau. He was the author of La Pologne (Quebec, 1875), Fite nationals des canadiens-français (Quebec, 1881), Paul de Chomedey, Sieur de Maisonneuve (Quebec, 1882), Inauguration du monument Champlain d Québec (Quebec, 1902), Annales de la Société Saint-Jean Baptists de Québec (Quebec, 1902-3), and Monographie dune famille canadienne française (Quebec, 1903).
