County of Montcalm

 

Montcalm, a county of the province of Quebec, lying north-west of I'Assomption county, of which it was originally an extension to the height of land. It is bounded by Joliette county on the north-east, Abitibi county on the north, Pontiac, Labelle, and Terrebonne counties on the south-west. It has an area of 4,800 square miles, but most of this is forest; and most of its population is concentrated at its southern end. Pop. 15,208 [in 1948].
