Cistercian Nuns

Cistercian Nuns. The Order of Cistercian Nuns was founded in 1125 near Dijon, France, for the purpose of returning to a strict observance of the rule of St. Benedict, after the fashion of the monks of Cîteaux. The first convent of Cistercian Nuns in America was founded at St. Romuald, Quebec, in 1902 by the Rev. Mother Lutgard. A second convent has been established at Rogersville, New Brunswick. The order is a cloistered one, and follows a life of contemplation and prayer. Its members are sometimes called Trappistines.
