Charles Symonds Cameron

 

CAMERON, Charles Symonds, B.A. - Secretary and Treasurer, British Empire Steel Corporation, and constituent and subsidiary companies, Canada Cement Building, Montreal. Born Baddeck, N.S., son of Alexander and Anne (Purves) Cameron. Educated: Pictou Academy; Dalhousie University (B.A.). In intervals between school and college terms was employed in general business; afterwards, Business Manager in a manufacturing establishment, Halifax; joined service of Dominion Iron and Steel Co., soon after its inception, 1899; appointed Comptroller, 1903; Secretary and Treasurer, 1904; appointed to same offices, Dominion Coal Co., on its reorganization, 1909; and to the Dominion Steel Corporation at its formation; and to Cumberland Railway and Coal Co., on its acquisition by Steel Corporation. Became Secretary and Treasurer of British Empire Steel Corporation on its organization in 1921 and of Halifax Shipyards, Ltd. Is also Secretary of Nova Scotia Steel & Coal Co., Ltd., and other principal constituents of the British Empire 'Corporation. Served with 94th Highlanders and 63rd Rifles for many years; served with Halifax Provisional Battalion in Northwest Rebellion, 1885. Married Alice Lyle Munnis, daughter of James K. Munnis, Halifax, Oct. 8, 1890; two sons (the eldest, Lieut. Charles M. Cameron, killed in action, June 11, 1916), and five daughters. Clubs: University (Montreal); Royal Montreal Golf; Royal Cape Breton Yacht (ex-Commodore); Halifax (Halifax). Presbyterian. Residence: 912 Comte Street, Montreal.
