Arthur Edward Jones

 

Jones, Arthur Edward (1838-1918), priest and archaeologist, was, born at Brockville, Upper Canada, on November 17, 1838, the son of Henry Jones and Lucy Catherine Macdonell. He was educated at St. Mary's College, Montreal ; and in 1857 joined the Society of Jesus. He was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Church in 1873; .and in 1882 he was appointed archivist of St. Mary's College, Montreal. In addition to some controversial pamphlets dealing with the Jesuits, he published the Aulneau collection: Rare or unpublished documents (17.34-45) (Montreal, 1893), and Old Huronia (5th Report of the Bureau of Archives, Ontario , 1908). He died at Montreal on January 19, 1918. In 1910 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Canada. A list of his publications is in the Bulletin des Recherches Historiques, December, 1926.
