Far less is known about the network of hospitals that Franco-Americans developed. In the 1920s there were at least eight Franco-American hospitals in operation in the New England area as well as at least five orphanages. All these institutions appear to have been run established and managed by religious communities. The New England area, not counting New York, had 372 Franco-American doctors, many of whom were Quebec born, or who had done studies in Quebec. Significant numbers of dentists and pharmacists completed the network. Back to : The Emigration of French Canadians to the United States, 1840-1930 © 1999 Claude Bélanger, Marianopolis College |
