Miss Lily Emily Frances Barry
Journalist, Lecturer, Sociologist. Born Montreal, daughter of the late James Barry, of Customs Dept., Ottawa, and the late Catherine M. Barry, both of Fermoy, Co. Cork, Ireland . Educated: Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur, Ottawa, ten years; private tutor, one year; matriculated, McGill University; studied three years at Ottawa Art School; two years at Loyola School of Sociology and Social Service, Montreal; Diploma in Sociology. Entered journalism as Member of Editorial staff, Colliers Weekly, New York, 1893; in 1896, joined Editorial staff, Montreal Star; in 1900, was special staff correspondent, Montreal Star, at Paris Exposition; resigned from Star in 1909, to take up work of Royal Edward Institute under the late Col. J. H. Burland. Is a Life Governor and still actively interested in anti-tuberculosis campaign; in 1915, became Hon. Secretary, Catholic Social Service Guild, now a Director of it; Lecturer in Statistics and Supervisor of Field Work in the Loyola School of Sociology and Social Service. Author of Essays: "In Paths of Peace," verses, etc. Clubs and Societies: Women's Canadian Club; Canadian Women's Press Club; M. Catholic Women's League; Catholic Truth Society; Monteregian Club; American Hospital Association; Child Welfare Association; International Federation of Catholic Alumnae; Girl Guides; Catholic Girls' Club. Recreations: Sketching, portrait painting. Catholic. Residence: Apartment 11, 580 Union Ave., Montreal.
