ARMSTRONG, Col. George Eli, M.D., M.Ch., C.M.G., LL.D., D.Sc., Montreal . - Born Leeds , Que., 1854, son of Rev. John and Harriet M. (Ives) Armstrong. Educated: Public Schools; Montpelier Seminary; McGill University ; studied abroad, principally in England, Germany and France ; Queen's University (LL.D.); Liverpool (D.Sc.); Dublin (M.Ch.). Surgeon, Montreal General Hospital, 1890-1911; Consulting Surgeon, Montreal General Hospital, 1911; Consulting Surgeon, Protestant Hospital for the Insane, Verdun; appointed Chief Surgeon, Royal Victoria Hospital, June 3, 1911; Emeritus Professor of Surgery, Medical Faculty, McGill University; for a year and a half Consulting Surgeon, C.A.M.C., England; Member, Surgical Congress of Inter-allied Surgeons; Member, Advisory Board of Imperial Consulting Surgeons; given rank of full Colonel, 1917; contributed to several medical journals and text books; Author of most important paper on the surgical treatment of hemorrhage from the stomach, read in London before the British Medical Assoc.; Author of an article on surgery on the pancreas in Buck's reference handbook of the medical science; surgery of infectious diseases in Keen's surgery; surgery of the tongue and salivary glands in American Practice of Surgery, Bryant & Buck; Past President and Member, Medico-Chirurgical Society, Montreal; Past President, American Surgical Assoc.; Past President, Canadian Medical Assoc.; President, American College of Surgeons; Vice-President, American Society for the Control of Cancer. Married Mary Hadley, daughter of Daniel Hadley, 1878; has one son and four daughters; secondly, Jessie Reid, St. Johns , Nfld., 1917.
