Rev. George Adam

Minister, Emanuel Church, Drummond Street, Montreal. Born Falkirk, Scotland, Oct. 6, 1880, son of Douglas and Margaret (Cameron) Adam. Educated: Arnott Hill Academy ; Edinburgh University; Western Theological College, Bristol , England. Came to Canada, Aug., 1917. Ordained by the Congregational Union of England and Wales; Minister, Forest Gate Church, London, Eng.; Minister, Castle Green Church, Bristol, Eng.; took great interest in war work for the soldiers after having been refused enlistment on medical grounds. For some time was a staff officer to the British Minister of Munitions, London , Eng. Visited Western front on several occasions. During one of these, at the invitation of the British Foreign Office, was accompanied by Harry Lauder through the trenches. Chairman, Congregational Union of Canada, 1920-21; appointed President, Montreal Protestant Ministerial Assoc., 1921-22. Mr. Adam during his University days, took a prominent part in the debates of the Union. For many years was identified on the platform as a prominent speaker on behalf of the Liberal party. Interested in football (association) and was a well-known amateur player in Scotland, gaining his "Blue" for his University. Since his arrival in Canada, Mr. Adam's time has been divided between his Church and lecturing throughout Canada and the United States on social and patriotic subjects. Member, Bristol Board of Guardians and of the Educational Committee of Bristol. Chaplain, Burns Club, London, Eng., 1915-17. Chairman, Congregational Union of Canada , 1920-21. Married Jean Barr, daughter of George Barr, Esq., Southfield, Scotland; has three sons and one daughter. Club: Kiwanis. Societies: A.F. & A.M.; Royal Colonial Institute, English Speaking Union . Recreations: Football, bowling, journalism. Independent. Congregational.
