Wyatt Eaton

Eaton, Wyatt (1849-1896), painter, was born at Phillipsburg, lake Champlain, Lower Canada, on May 6, 1849. He studied at the National Academy of Design, New York, and in the atelier of Gérôme at the Beaux Arts, Paris. He became a friend of the painter Millet (see his "Recollections of J. F. Millet" in the Century Magazine, vol. xvi); and exhibited in the Paris Salon. In 1873 he returned to New York, and there for many years he taught and painted. In 1892 he returned to Canada, and painted a number of Canadian portraits. His health gave out, however, and on June 7, 1896, he died at Newport, Rhode Island.
