Waswanipi
Waswanipi House, a Hudson's Bay Company post at the outlet of lake Waswanipi, in northern Quebec. It is an old post, dating back possibly to the French régime, and is still in operation.
Waswanipi river, rises in the lake of the same name and flows through Gull and Olga lakes to Mattagami lake, Abitibi territory, Quebec. The river is deep and rapid, and, in certain parts, as large and powerful as the Ottawa river at the entry of the Mattawa. It is 130 miles in length and drains an area of 9,000 square miles. Auriferous quartz has been found in the valley of the Waswanipi. Source : W. Stewart WALLACE, ed., The Encyclopedia of Canada, Vol. VI, Toronto, University Associates of Canada, 1948, 398p., p. 260.
