Jean-Baptiste Toussaint Pothier
Pothier, Jean Baptiste Toussaint (1771-1845), legislative and executive councillor of Lower Canada, was born at Montreal on May 16, 1771, the son of Louis Toussaint Pothier, a fur-trader, and Louise Courault. In 1812 he organized and commanded a corps of voyageurs for the defence of the lakes. From 1824 to 1838 he was a member of the Legislative Council of Lower Canada; from 1838 to 1839 of the Executive Council; and from 1838 to 1841 of the Special Council. He died at Montreal on October 22, 1845. In 1820 he married Anne Françoise, daughter of Lieut -Col. Ralph Henry Bruyères, R.E. See E. Z.
