Sir William Eyre
Eyre, Sir William (1805-1859), administrator of Canada (1857), was born at Hatfield, England, in 1805, the second son of Vice-admiral Sir George Eyre. He entered the British army in 1823, served with distinction in the Crimean war, was created a K.C.B. in 1855, and was appointed in 1856 commander-in-chief of the forces in Canada. In 1857, during the absence of Sir Edmund Head, he was administrator of the government of Canada. He returned to England in 1858, and he died there in 1859. Source : W.
