Sir Rodolphe Forget

Forget, Sir Joseph David Rodolphe (1861-1919), financier, was born at Terrebonne, Canada East, on December 10, 1861, the son of David Forget and Angèle Limoges. He was educated at Masson College, Terrebonne. In 1890 he became a member of the Montreal Stock Exchange, and in 1908 he was elected its president. He had widespread financial interests, and was president of the Richelieu and Ontario Navigation Company, of the Quebec and Saguenay Railway, of the Eastern Canada Steel and Iron Works, of the Canada Car Foundry Company, and other corporations. In 1911 he founded also the Banque Internationale du Canada. From 1904 to 1917 he represented Charlevoix in the Canadian House of Commons, as an independent Conservative. He died at Montreal on February 19, 1919. He was twice married, (1) in 1885 to Alexandra Tourville, and (2) in 1895 to Blanche, daughter of A. R. McDonald, of Quebec. He was appointed honorary lieutenant-colonel of the 65th Carabiniers of Montreal in 1907; and in 1912 he was created a knight bachelor.
