Sir George Christie Gibbons
Gibbons, Sir George Christie (1848-1918), chairman of the Canadian section of the International Waterways Commission (1905-11), was born at St. Catharines, Upper Canada, on July 2, 1848, the son of William Gibbons. He was educated at Upper Canada College, was called to the Ontario bar in 1869 (Q.C., 1891), and practised law in London, Ontario: Though never a member of parliament, he was a prominent Liberal; and from 1905 to 1911 he was chairman of the Canadian section of the International Waterways Commission. He died at Montreal on August 8, 1918. In 1876 he married Elizabeth Campbell, daughter of Hugh Craig of Montreal; and by her he had several children. In 1911 he was created a knight bachelor.
