Sillery

Sillery, a village in Quebec county, Quebec, on the north shore of the St. Lawrence river, 4 miles west of the city of Quebec. It is named after Noël Brulart de Sillery, a partner in the Company of New France who established here a seminary for the Indians. From 1680 to 1700, about 500 Abnaki were settled here, before they removed to the banks of the St. Francis river in Yamaska county. The population of the parish, which is known as St. Colomb de Sillery, is over 4,000. See Abbé H. A. Scott, La bourgade Saint-Joseph de Sillery après 1670 (La Nouvelle France, 1911).
