Samuel Mathewson Baylis

 

Retired Merchant, late James Baylis & Son, Carpets, &c. Born Montreal, Sept. 3rd, 1854, son of James and Sarah Jane (Mathewson) Baylis. Educated at Montreal High School. Author of Camp and Lamp, 1898 (Prose and verse); At the Sign of the Beaver, 1907 (Prose and verse); Shake-Speare - an Enquiry, 1910 (Prose monograph); Echoes of the Great War, 1919 (Verse); and other works. Clubs and Societies: Montreal Amateur Athletic Assoc. (Charter and Life Member); Kanawaki Golf Club; Cascade Golf (Hon. Life Member); Kaneron Fish & Game; St. James' Literary Society (President); Antiquarian and Numismatic Society (Vice-President); Homoeopathic Assoc. (President); Homoeopathic Hospital. Married Hilda Emily Adams, Oct. 2, 1882. One son (deceased) and three daughters (one deceased). Protestant. Residence: 808 University Street, Montreal .
