Robert Cassels

Cassels, Robert (1843-1898), lawyer and author, was born in Quebec on April 27, 1843, the third son of Robert Cassels. He was educated at Morrin College (B.A., 1866), and he was called to the bar of Lower Canada in 1864, and that of Upper Canada in 1866. In 1875 he was appointed first registrar of the Supreme Court of Canada, and he retained this position until his death on June 17, 1898. He was the author of A manual of procedure in the Supreme and Exchequer Courts of Canada (Toronto, 1877), A digest of all cases reported and unreported by the Supreme Court of Canada (Toronto, 1886; 2nd e4., 1893), and The practice of the Supreme Court of Canada (Toronto, 1888; 2nd ed., 1899).
